Why do we need so many fundraisers?

Funding disparities

LCCS is a public school and receives most of it's funding from the state - but we get far less than a traditional public school. By law, charter schools are allowed to receive no more than 90% of the funding that a traditional public school receives, but in reality we see far less.

How much less? Compared to a traditional Jersey City district school we receive about $7,000 less per pupil, per year. Plus we receive no funds for building improvements or repairs. While some charter schools in New Jersey and beyond are run by for-profit corporations, LCCS was founded by parents and educators.
