Learning Community Charter School is chartered to serve Pre-K4 through
8th Grade. Pre-K4 has two classes of 15 students each. The average
class size for K - 8 is 20 students. For 2013-14 there will be three
classes in each grade K through 8th (for a total of approximately 60
students per grade) The school is open to children from throughout
Jersey City. The lottery has already taken place for the 2014-2015 school year. No applications are currently being accepted. Applications will be available for the 2015-2016 school year starting on Monday, November 3, 2014 until Friday, January 2, 2015. A public lottery will be held on the following week in the school auditorium.
All applications are treated equally for the lottery.
It makes no
difference when an application was submitted as long as it is between
11/3/2014 and 1/2/2015 at 3pm. Applications should be submitted for the
grade for the appropriate age of the student. Applications will not be
accepted for the lottery if the grade is for a grade ahead of the
appropriate birth year. Siblings
of currently enrolled students are automatically admitted (upon handing
in an application) and do not have to participate in the lottery. If space is not available, siblings are placed at the top of the waiting list.
Lottery determines who gets admitted and who goes on the waiting list
-- and in what order. As openings occur, children from the waiting list
will be invited into the school. If they do not respond or if they
decline, they lose their place on the list and the next child will be
called. The waiting list will be used only for the school year drawn. The
waiting list established at the lottery held on January 10, 2013 will
be used to fill openings that occur this academic year from June 22,
2013 through June 25, 2014. On June 26, 2014 we will start using the
list established at the January 9, 2014 lottery. An applicant who is on the list and not accepted must re-apply and re-enter the lottery the following year. Any
openings occurring during the current school year will be filled from
the waiting list established at the previous years' lottery.
No tour dates are available now:
In order to recruit a student body that
reflects Jersey City's vast cultural and economic diversity, the school
conducts an extensive outreach campaign to recruit students from all
neighborhoods. The school publishes notices and places ads in local
newspapers and community publications. If a student is accepted
families must provide proof of Jersey City residency.
Future dates will be in November & December of 2014.
