Founded by parents in 1997, LCCS began as a small, neighborhood school in downtown Jersey City. We are now centered in the heart of the city and provide an innovative, top-notch education that Jersey City children need and deserve.
LCCS is …
About 60% of our 585 students are from minority groups, and some 39 languages are spoken at home. At least 35% of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Students are admitted via a lottery. Every year about 900 children are trying to get with just about 60 open seats for all grades, Pre-K – 8.
Because of funding inequities, LCCS students receive only $10,530 per year, per pupil in state funding, and our funding has been flat for three years. Traditional schools get more than $17,700 per pupil, per year.
