Staff Development Vision

Learning Community Charter School is committed to providing scientifically research-based staff development experiences for teachers to ensure the continuous challenging improvement of instruction and curriculum. LCCS encourages teachers to become life-long learners who value and are committed to learning.

The school supports the intellectual growth of the staff by encouraging teachers to attend professional meetings during the school year and in the summer months. Learning Community is a member of several professional organizations such as: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and National Middle School Association.

Staff Developers
LCCS engages the assistance of professional staff developers to improve curriculum and learning. Teachers work with Terry Ferrarone, a math staff developer, to create activities that differentiate the teaching of math to learners of all ability levels. A literacy staff developer, Terry Cavanagh, works with elementary school staff on using assessments in the reading and writing curriculum. Erica Denman, a middle school literacy staff developer, works with teachers in grades 4-8 to improve the English/Language Arts curriculum and develop ways to incorporate more writing in the content areas. Teachers work with the technology coordinator to integrate technology in the curriculum.
Let's Teach! Newsletter

Teachers share staff development experiences in a newsletter entitled Let's Teach! Each staff member writes several articles during the course of the school year documenting their staff development experiences, new teaching methodology or best instructional practices. It also is an opportunity for teachers to publish their writing. Let's Teach! is a way for the staff to share and learn from each other. Copies of Let's Teach! newsletters can be found in the above link.
