Why Teach at LCCS?

At LCCS we value curricular creativity and believe it is crucial to give teachers pedagogic freedom and flexibility. We encourage teachers to introduce new concepts and projects in their classrooms. For example, teachers have instituted our beloved High Honor Roll breakfast, the introduction of a LGBTQ literature unit in 7th grade, and our 6th-8th grade math tutoring program.

At LCCS, we offer rigorous professional development opportunities, bringing professionals to LCCS and making sure our teachers have the opportunity to attend the best local and national conferences and programs, including those run by Metamorphosis Teaching Learning Community and Touchstones Discussion Project. We are also committed to teachers bringing to us the types of PD they want to attend. It’s vital that PD is a two-way street.

At LCCS, we are fortunate enough to be one of the most diverse schools in the state. More than 40 languages are spoken in our students’ homes, and 70% of our students come from minority backgrounds. That diversity is reflected in our curricular opportunities, from arts and music that celebrates different cultures to classroom projects such as our 2nd Grade recipe celebration and our 5th Grade World’s Fair project.

At LCCS, we support teachers with mentoring and also nurture leadership and collaboration across our faculty. New teachers are provided with a faculty mentor, meet in small groups, and are supported by administrators. We also encourage teachers to work together on projects, not only within grade groups but across the school. For example, our “Reading Buddies” program brings older students to meet with younger peers to enhance literacy for both groups.
