5th Grade Special Ed ELA

                              Important Information and Updates

*  If your child is receiving special education reading and writing based on their IEP, they will be in my class every day during their scheduled ELA time.

*  We will be meeting on Zoom each day Monday-Thursday while we are on distance learning. Class will be structured very similarly to how it would be if we were meeting in person. We have an ELA block which means about half of the time will be spent on reading and half of the time will be spent on writing each day. We will be following the same theme units as the 5th grade general education classes, but will be using texts that are closer to your students' reading levels. Each reading unit will be driven by a novel study or study of a group of short articles with the same theme and the writing units will be paired with the genre of text and/or skills that are being taught in the reading unit.

*  Throughout the year we will be working on a variety of reading skills with individualized instruction based on each child's individual needs. If you want to know more about what we are working on based on individual IEP goals, please email me at aszecsi@lccsnj.org.

*
Please have your student read daily, as continuous practice is necessary for reading growth. They will also have reading or writing homework based on the lessons conducted in class. These assignments can be found on the class Google Classroom page, which your student can access via their LCCS gmail account.

*  Learning can also continue at home! Using your home computer, you can log on to your Raz-Kids account (teacher username aszecsi) to read or listen to reading, log in to tumblebooklibrary.com username: lccs and password: books to read books online and practice comprehension, you can go to starfall.com to play reading games online, and you can visit jclibrary.com to get more information from your local library about programs and events occurring to celebrate reading.
